Tewksbury Township, NJ – Harriet (Huminski) Scalera, 84, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Born in Somerville to the late Stanley and Harriet (Leeds) Huminski, Harriet grew up in Dunellen, moved to South Plainfield in 1955 and settled to Tewksbury in 1997.
She worked for the former NJ Bell in South Plainfield as an Administrative Assistant. She liked to travel and enjoyed her time caring for her family as a homemaker. In her early years, Harriet enjoyed playing piano, had a passion for fashion and liked to knit and sew.
Harriet will always be remembered as a fun, happy person who loved to laugh.
Predeceased by her husband Louis Daniel in 2001, Harriet leaves behind her family; sons Louis Scalera of Tewksbury, son Mark Scalera and his wife Vicki also of Tewksbury and daughter Michele Hall and her husband Wayne of Goodview, VA. She also leaves behind her grandchildren; Jessica, Alyssa and Amy Scalera, brother Tom Huminski and his wife Teresa of Westford, MA, sister Martha Haborak and her husband Ray of Mechanicsburg, PA along with three cousins whom Harriet considered siblings; Joan Hahr of St. Johnsbury, VT, Stella Lawrence of Hillsborough and Billy Kania and his wife Pam of Matawan.
Visitation will be held in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and on Saturday, March 17, 2018 beginning 9:30 am.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10:00 am followed by burial at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations sent to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or to the VNA of Somerset Hills Hospice (www.visitingnurse.org) would be appreciated.
