Obituary for Alvin Knight

Alvin  Knight
Alvin Knight (“Al”), 85, of Piscataway, passed away peacefully at home on November 15, 2016 surrounded by the love of his family. Born and raised in Jersey City to the late Alvin and Betty Teresa Knight. He was a graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx and went on to work with the American Can Company in Jersey City as a machine mechanic upon graduation. Al served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1960. He was a member and served as commander of the American Legion John F. Kennedy Memorial Post 483, and founded the Ladies Auxiliary. Al returned to Jersey City and moved with his family to Piscataway in 1976 when the Can Company relocated to Edison He served as president of the United Steelworkers of America, Local 3628. Al retired from the can company in 1992 after over 35 years of employment. Al was a regular at Pizza n Pasta in Piscataway, where he was affectionately dubbed “Uncle Al” by his friends and would go almost every Friday and Saturday night to share in comradery and spend some special time with his friend Johnny. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who most of all enjoyed the quality time spent with his family.
Alvin was preceded in death by his loving daughter Margaret Lucille Reeves and siblings, Joyce Adams and Patricia Santemore.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 64 years, Shirley Holland Knight, his loving children, daughter, Yvonne Rowan (husband Quan) and son, Alvin C. Knight, Esq., his cherished grandchildren Shan L. Reeves (wife Lauren), and Diara Evonne Reeves, his great-grandchildren Ashley, Alexus, Austin, and Malia, and “sister-in-law” Ernestine “Bunchie” Virgo and husband Wilton, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 20th, 2016 from 2pm through 6pm at the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, November 21st, 2016 at the funeral home.

Interment will follow with military honors at Clover Leaf Cemetery, Woodbridge.

Repast will be held at Pizza Pasta, 600 William Street, Piscataway following the interment.
