Plainfield - Edmund Mendez, 74, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at JFK Medical Center in Edison with his family members at his side.
Born and raised in Newark, NJ, he resided in Carteret before settling to Plainfield in 1982.
Edmund graduated from Newark, East Side High School in 1960. He spent his career working for the Daily Record in Parsippany, NJ, as a Mail Room Foreman. He also worked for the Home News - Tribune from 1974 until 1978.
Mr. Mendez was actively involved with Whiskers and Wags Rescue Group of North Plainfield. He will be fondly remembered as a hard worker who was a stickler for details and doing the right thing. He enjoyed watching football with his grandsons and “Sunday Dinners” at his daughter Denise’s house. He was a huge Carteret Ramblers fan and watched both his grandsons win states in 2007 & 2012. He loved spending time with his daughter Geri & granddaughter Olivia as well as his nephew Jeff & his wife Livia.
He is predeceased by his loving wife Susan who died in 2012.
Surviving are his two daughters; Geraldine Heldring and her husband Jamie, Denise Sanfilippo and her husband, John, and two stepsons; Louis Centorcelli IV and Peter Centorcelli.
Also surviving are a sister, Marie Hagan, brother, Anthony, sister-in-law Janet Maimone, and grandchildren; Anthony, Danny, Wendy, Olivia, Michael, Katherine, Paul & Elizabeth.
Family and friends may attend visitation hours on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 3 - 7pm in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080, followed by a 10 AM Funeral Mass in Church of the Sacred Heart, South Plainfield.
Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
