Obituary for John J. Christ

John J.  Christ
South Plainfield - John J. Christ, Sr., 81, passed away peacefully Monday, August 7, 2017 at the Center of Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains.

Born in Staten Island, NY to the late Henry and Lillian Christ, John later settled to South Plainfield in 1961 with his wife, Barbara to raise their family.

An honorable discharged veteran of the United States Airforce, John served our Country for 4 years while stationed in England. He was employed with LA Dreyfus in Edison as a welder for almost 40 years and participated in their first responder fire brigade as well as their company softball team.

John known to many as “Chief” or “Barney” was a well-known coach for S.P. Pop Warner Football and the Babe Ruth Baseball League. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and attending dirt car racing with friends and family. Most of all, John enjoyed rooting for his grandchildren at their sporting activities.

John will be sadly missed by all, especially his furry companions, Gracie, Petie and Max.

Predeceased by his son Barry Christ who passed in 2013; surviving are his wife, Barbara (DeAngelis) Christ; two daughters; Barbara Del Nero and her husband Darrell of Manville and Nora Christ of South Plainfield, three sons; Jeffrey and his wife Roseann of Union Beach, Christopher and his wife Lisa of South Plainfield and Thomas and his wife Kristine of Red Bank and his nine beloved grandchildren, Natalie, Jeffrey, Angelina, Thomas, Taylor, Isaiah, Siana-Lee, Oliva and Lucas.

Family and friends may join in visitation on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 4-8PM in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080. Funeral services for John will begin at 7:15PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Center of Hope Hospice, 1900 Raritan Road Scotch Plains NJ 07076.
