Eugene A. Massaro, 77, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Newark, Mr. Massaro grew up in Kearny and resided in East Newark prior to settling to South Plainfield in 1977.
A graduate of St. Benedict's Prep and Seton Hall University and a Veteran of the U.S. Army, Eugene was a sports enthusiast who was known as one of the top fastpitch softball players of his generation. After his playing days were over, Eugene turned his attention to coaching his children and many of the youth in South Plainfield, culminating in being awarded as an Honorary Lifetime Member of the South Plainfield Junior Baseball Club. Eugene enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and watching his grandchildren in their various activities.
Predeceased by his parents; Lawrence and Mary Massaro and brother; Lawrence Massaro, surviving are his loving wife of 54 years; Helen, children; Ann Marie Kukuch (John) of South Plainfield, Therese Hart (Edward) of White Twp., Eugene Massaro of South Plainfield, Thomas Massaro (Kristin) of South Plainfield and Daniel Massaro (Lisa) of Fairfield, grandchildren; Jaclyn, Christopher, Nicholas, Kayla, T.J., Nicolette, Nicole, Danielle and Dominic, great grandchildren; Caiden and Charlotte, sister; Elvira Larsen (Richard), sister- in-law; Susan Armbruster (Robert), brother-in-law; Ronald Kwiecinski, cousin; Robert DiGenova (Anne). Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, extended loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 4-8pm in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 beginning at 9:15am in the funeral home followed by a 10am funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
