Estelle Switzer, 96, of South Plainfield, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2018 at her home.
Born in South Plainfield, she was a former resident of Plainfield and North Plainfield before spending most of her life in South Plainfield.
Estelle was a 1939 graduate of North Plainfield High School. She worked for Am Velour Mills in Bound Brook, NJ for 20 years from 1941-1961. After that, Estelle worked at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company until she retired in 1988. Estelle received the Goodyear Spirit Award in 1974. Following her retirement, she traveled the world with family and friends and also enjoyed being outdoors and spending time on her porch.
Estelle was a communicant of The Church of Sacred Heart in South Plainfield and was a volunteer at Muhlenberg Hospital. Estelle also volunteered at Villa Maria Nursing Home in North Plainfield.
She was preceded in death by her dear brothers, Eugene Sikanowicz and Paul Sikanowicz.
Surviving are her son, Kenneth Switzer and wife Vivian of Georgia and her brother Leon Sikanowicz and wife Frances of Readington, NJ. Estelle was a grandmother to Kimberly Powers and a great-grandmother to Christopher Powers. Survivors also include nieces and nephews; Michael and wife Mary Sikanowicz, David and wife Glenna Sikanowicz, Amy Sikanowicz, Beth Ann and husband David Degitz, Kathryn Sikanowicz, Sandy Sikanowicz and Thomas Sikanowicz. Also surviving are great-nephews Ryder and Lake Degitz.
Services will be private.
Arrangements were entrusted to the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, South Plainfield.
A memorial will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00PM at the Italian American Club, 1001 Garibaldi Avenue, South Plainfield.
